The Double R Sign Returns to North Bend

Around February of 2023, I was approached to help run a Kickstarter fundraiser and event to create a neon sign replica for the real-life diner that was the filming location for the Double R Diner on the TV show Twin Peaks. I don’t think most people really know how much time and effort goes into a fundraiser, let alone one that requires manufacturing a single large scale item being placed on a historical landmark!

Thankfully, the town of North Bend had really embraced their history of being a filming location for Twin Peaks, and after the fundraiser surpassed its goal, the permits and waivers weren’t too difficult to get! In addition to particulars related to the manufacturing and installation of the real sign, backer rewards such as two posters, three T-shirt designs, pins, postcards, and stickers needed to be designed and created as well.

The event also celebrated 31st anniversary of the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me by having a movie night before the sign lighting. The movie movie night included:

an expanded Fire Walk With Me documentary
a never-before-seen concert of Julee Cruise that took place during the 2002 Twin Peaks Fest
the first part of a documentary about the history of the diner
footage of the creation of the sign
door prize giveaways including a small scale replica out of LED strip lights that I created.
