Cyndi Lauper Concert
Date published: August 27, 2003
I went to a Cyndi Lauper concert last night and it was great! Even tho I am still recuperating from my appendectomy, I really wanted to go to the concert. I bought my ticket months ago, and I didn't want to waste it, so off I went. I didn't drive tho. Some friends (and fellow Geocachers) who were also going were gracious enough to let me tag along. I was wearing my overalls to avoid too much pressure on my waist area where one of the incision points was, and as long as I didn't move around too much I felt fine (with the help of my Vicodin pills).
Back on topic, the concert was great. It started at about 8:15 pm, and took place in the Bears Den at Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, NY, which took about 1.5 hours to get to. Cyndi sung songs from her whole career. She even sang a verse of Goonies R Good Enough, which from what I'm told according to her website she had never sung in concert. She sang one song that she prefaced by saying it would be out on a new album of love songs she was working on.
It is important to note that unlike 99% of the other tour dates, at this venue Cyndi was not the opening act for Meatloaf. Her and him are touring around at state fairs and such this summer now that she's no longer opening for Cher. This venue tho, she added somewhat recently, and it was just to be her performing... no opening act. A couple times during her performance she mentioned how great it was that she wasn't being "booted off stage for another act."
The venue was really small. At the beginning of the concert Cyndi even mentioned that it was pretty small, but that made it "all the more intimate." I think at first she may have been a bit surprised, but overall I think she really enjoyed the size of the place. I'd say it sat 300 people. The small size of the place allowed for Cyndi to get off the stage and walk around through the audience quite easily with her cordless mic. I think she really enjoyed that tho, because she did it a lot. At one point she was right behind my chair. I could have pointed my arm out straight without leaning and touched her. There was no one between her and I. It was awesome being so close to her. Some people were actually touching her...but I found it a bit rude, so didn't do it.
So anyway, it was a great concert... I think this marks my third "big name" concert ever. Oh yeah, and if you want to see the set list and/or read other reviews from this specific venue, check out this section on her official site.
